Carrying on the Back, without chair or couch
****until you're experienced, use this method standing in front of a sofa or with another adult there to catch a possible fall. Until babies & mommas are more experienced, a baby may decide to suddenly arch or flip off of your back - and that could be a bad fall for baby or a sore arm for you trying to catch baby! Falling on the sofa is at least much safer. From personal experience, I have been a baby wearer from birth and just last week at 20 months we almost had a bad fall. SO ALWAYS BE EXTEMLY CAREFUL WHEN PUTTLING BABY ON YOUR BACK UNASSISTANT NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU AND BABY HAVE BEEN BABYWERAING****
  1. roll the bottom to make carrier shorter if needed
  2. Tie carrier around your waist, turn it to the back so that it dangles down the backs of your legs
  3. Either pick him up facing away from you, lift over your head & set him on your back as you lean forward and adjust his legs to straddle your back as he usually straddles your hip. Baby will be laying on your back at this point - keep leaning forward! or- Put baby on your hip, lean way forward and scooch him around to your back so that he's straddling your back with his legs just as he usually straddles your hip. after I have my 20 month old son on my back I ask him to give me hugs. So he is holding on to my neck as well.
  4. Hold baby under the hinny to support him & with your other hand flip up carrier. You are still leaning way forward so that baby is laying on your back.
  5. Reach behind you with your free hand & grab a shoulder strap & pull it over your shoulder
  6. While holding 1st strap tight, let go baby's hinny & reach back for the 2nd strap - when you've got them both pulled tight, stand up straight
  7. Pull the straps SNUG and tight (but not too tight) - if they are loose baby will sag down & be uncomfortable & the sagging weight will be uncomfortable to you
  8. Pull the straps over your shoulders and criss cross over your breast
  9. Bring straps back over baby's thighs & tie securely under baby's bum

High Back carry
  1. roll the bottom to make carrier shorter if needed
  2. tie the waist straps above the breasts. Make sure it is tied snugly!! Carrier will be dangling down your back
  3. put baby on your back. You can do this while sitting on a chair or couch if you are a bit inexperienced. Or if comfortable and have the help of another adult pick him up facing away from you, lift over your head & set him on your back as you lean forward and adjust his legs to straddle your back as he usually straddles your hips
  4. bring the shoulder straps under your shoulders and under your armpits back pack style, or you can criss cross them over your breast. Which ever you prefer
  5. cross the straps over your baby's hinny and across his thighs, bring them back around front
  6. tie the straps snuggly around your waist

Hip carry
  1. roll the bottom to make carrier shorter if needed
  2. tie carrier around your waist, turn it to your hip so that it dangles down at your side
  3. Hold baby on your hip center on the carrier, legs straddled around your hips
  4. Flip carrier up behind baby
  5. hold baby snug & with your free hand grab the strap on the front side of your body and cross your body and go over your opposite shoulder, draped over your shoulder
  6. still holding baby snug grab the strap on your back side, take it baby's arm and cross your back
  7. Holding both straps snugly one in each hand, take the one draped over your should around baby and the one cross your back around your waist and meet, tie over baby's thighs and either under the hinny or behind the back

Nursing in Carrier
To nurse in the front or hip positions
  1. simply loosen the straps tied under baby's hinny & then retie them.
  2. This drops baby down to the breast & gives you some room to get your hands in between the carrier & yourself to open your shirt & get baby latched on
  3. When you're done, remember to thigh ten the straps back up & pull baby upright or your back will start to feel the strain! Knots We recommend that you use square knots. Tying in bows could result in the tie coming loose and baby falling out. Also, BE MINDFUL - you are responsible to be sure that these knots STAY TIED - check them regularly!!!!!

Tying tips
Tip: If baby is hanging down to low simply pull on the straps a bit and give a little wiggle to get the carrier up higher.
Tip: To make sure that baby is up high enough and that the carrier is tight enough to be supper comfortable, I have found it helpful to give a few little bounces as I pull the straps together and the knot tight.
